Litter Pick

Timebank organisational member West Country Rivers Trust asked for help from Timebank with a litter pick in Whitleigh Woods. Whitleigh Timebank members Kevin, Keith and Tony came along to help. They met at Borrowdale Close with other volunteers that were there from West Country Rivers Trust.

Westcountry Rivers Trust is working in conjunction with the Preventing Plastic Pollution project and do litter surveys with their litter picks which informs the project of the types and quantities of litter entering our waterways.

During the litter pick Timebank members talked to the West Country Rivers Trust staff to find out more about what they do with the waterways in the North West of Plymouth. The volunteers started litter picking on the larger paths but not much rubbish was found. The group then went down to the stream where a lot of rubbish was found, including old bike frames, cables, and bike tyres.

After collecting the rubbish, they all went back to where they started the walk and each individual group of litter, like plastic and metal was weighed. Westcountry Rivers Trust thanked all the volunteers who came out and helped for the morning.
