A little bit about us …

Timebanking is about exchanging time, skills, interests, and the things you love to do with others. Through these simple acts of sharing, we can help reduce the loneliness and isolation that many people in our city experience.

It could be helping someone with a form, mending a hole in a jumper, helping someone set up a new phone or tablet, taking a dog for a walk or having a cup of tea with someone who’s feeling a bit on their own. This exchange creates a cycle of learning, connection, and mutual support. By using your abilities to uplift others, you also grow personally, build stronger relationships, and become part of a community where everyone benefits.

It means people can get a little help when they need it but, more importantly, it helps people feel they have a value to others.

Timebanking can make a particular difference to people who are feeling isolated, experiencing low mood or those whose life has moved into a new chapter e.g. retirement, relationship breakdown, long term health conditions or perhaps bereavement.

I’ve regularly attended the Friday morning meeting of Timebank in Honicknowle for a couple of years now. Often, we sit down with a cup of coffee and have a pleasant chat. Sometimes we have a quiz, sometimes we make apple crumble and occasionally I take my guitar and sing them a few songs (’60’s & ’70’s covers, with a sprinkling of Pink Floyd). We’ve had some interesting talks and discussions from groups who represent the wider community.

I usually arrive at the meeting feeling in a good space, and leave feeling better. I recommend the Honicknowle Timebank meeting and I have no plans to be elsewhere on a Friday morning for the foreseeable future.
